Easy Challenges on Final Fantasy XXIV
Recently, I’ve been playing through the wonderful game that is Final Fantasy XXIV. It’s a great example of an mmorpg being done right, with it being free to play and having fewer restrictions on gameplay than most other games in it’s genre. One thing that I really enjoy doing in ff14 is trying to complete all of the quests I find, which has lead me to rack up a sizable list of PvE accomplishments.
This might be a good time to point out that the information in this article is only accurate as of version 2.0 , and may not reflect content or features found in future versions of Final Fantasy XXIV. The game is pretty generous in the number of quests available to players, but (at least when I started playing), there was a worrying lack of tasks aimed at more advanced players- no special hunts, no endgame raids or anything like that. One day, however, I stumbled across an NPC that would change all that. He challenged me to a duel, where I would have to kill a Behemoth.
How to unlock challenge log quests
After accepting the quest from NPC “Wisdom King” in Ul’Dah, you will have to kill 100 of a certain monster. In order to access more challenges, you have to complete these quests, which can be accessed by talking to “Challenge Log Master” NPC. Completing this quest got me a reward of several silver chocobo feathers, which can be traded in for xp books at “Skillful House” in Ul’Dah.
Challenge log quests are available from level 1, and no special conditions exist. Challenges can include killing certain enemies with a party, or within a time limit. They also include more ridiculous challenges- for instance, one of them requires you to kill an enemy that is 7 levels higher than yourself.
Challenge log quests can be repeated as many times as you like, and rewards vary depending on the challenge. Rewards include xp books for use in class skill trees, armor with special attributes built in, or currency for buying certain items from NPCs. I have yet to unlock any weapons as a reward from these quests.
Defeat the boss of a five-star dungeon
This is one of the easier challenges. Dungeons are quite rare on this game, so you may have to wait until some higher-level dungeon pops up before killing a boss within it. Once that happens though, just round yourself up with friends or party members, and get to work killing that bad boy. Reward: A silver chocobo feather.
Kill 100 enemies with the limit break of a Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic class
A pretty easy challenge to complete, but also kind of time consuming. I’m not exactly sure what triggers this challenge’s appearance, since it seems to happen randomly after killing lots of monsters. Just take your best damage dealer and spam limit breaks. Reward: A silver chocobo feather.
Obtain all thirteen espers and complete their side quests
This one was a real pain. The quests themselves aren’t difficult (well, except for the final one), but getting all thirteen espers takes quite some time to do. Not only that, but you have to summon each esper at least once in order to obtain their signet. Once you have them all though? Make sure you equip them on your character of choice, since they all provide unique effects. Reward: A silver chocobo feather.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed reading this article, and that it gave you some ideas for things to do in game. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or on our FFXIV forums.
